Description

In 1976, MoMA’s Department of Photography was gifted a collection of works by the Italian artist and photographer Luigi Ghirri. Among these items was a hand-bound album filled with over one hundred chromogenic prints, entitled
Paessagi de cartone
, or Cardboard Landscapes. That volume was kept out of sight in the department’s collection for nearly four decades — until now.
Luigi Ghirri: Cardboard Landscapes
is a stunning facsimile of that album, nearly identical in all essential details. Originally created during his travels around Europe, this series of works features the printed image as its subject matter, creating a mélange of found photographs and advertisements that together capture a specific moment in time. Inspiring to flip through, it looks just as lovely laying out on the coffee table thanks to its gorgeous marbleized cover. A must-have for any photography-lover’s collection.
